Aquatop Canister
I am looking at getting a new canister filter. Has anyone had any experience with the aquatop line of canister filters?

I have an Aquatop 400 sitting next to my 40B just waiting to be setup. It looks like a great product, I cannot wait to give it a go.

I have the ef-200 on my 25 for almost a full year and it's been working great no leaks and quiet.

I actually have the CF500 for about a month
I'm sure it would be good for a filled tank. But I have a turtle tank and the intake is eating air even though I feel like I sealed the heck out of everything. In talks with them trying to have a new intake assembly shipped out to me for free. But they said I had to fill the tank completely with water then test it and then document it before they will honor the warranty. I'm guessing you have don't have a low water line but when it is working it is pretty quiet. This is my first filter and it's ok for quality, some minor cosmetic issues. On mine the head unit isn't flush with the body. The prime button is a "B" to push down and makes this horrible screeching noise. The intake going into the tank comes with 3 straight pieces I think but they all have a specific order you can connect them so you can't shorten the intake if you wanted to. I'm not sure if everyone else has that problem (not a problem if you have a high tank) Can't say much about the flow as this is my first canister filter. I recently added a PVC pipe to have the output go straight down into the water. When it I had it going to the spray it seemed pretty good though a couple of holes in the bar would drip instead of spray...not sure why (this was out of the box with no media in the filter.) Other people seem to LOVE it though. i think Amazon is out of them at the moment but I think they should be getting some in January. |

For the AquaTop CF-series, do a search here for the SunSun Review thread. It's huge.

I have been looking at eheim filters as well but i think i will give the aquatop CF500UV a try. It seems like you just cant beat the price for what you are getting.

The UV in these things doesn't have very good reviews. Again, check the SunSun thread. I'd recommend the HW-304A version (same product, different rebrand) on Evilbay. The "A" is without UV, the "B" is with. A and B are both $100 shipped.

I have had the cf-500 for almost a year and it works great on my 55 gallon planted goldfish tank! Though the uv bulb blew fairly soon after setting it up, the filter itself is very nice allowing for lots of media.

I have a CF300 on my 20 long and I'd say it's more than perfect. I also have an Aquaclear 50 on there but just until I set up my quarantine tank for a future project.

Replacing my AquaTop with Eheim. Do some forum searches - some people love them, some not.

I rather buy the one without the uv and save.
That weak uv isn't worth it. |
