rimless
Is a 10 gallon tank small enough to take of the top bracing and convert it to rimless?

Yes 10 and 20g tanks can safely be derimmed with no worry about loss of integrity

I might be wrong, but unless the rim has a center brace, then it doesn't really do anything structurally for the tank. I've heard of people de-rimming 40B (no idea how those turned out though...)

It is fine to do so. However, I would recommend trying to find this tank, if you don't already have a 10 gallon:
http://www.amazon.com/Marina-Style-G.../dp/B0035H5H8K If you remove the hood, rim is not there. Pretty cool. Finished much better than a standard 10 gallon on top, will save you a few hours, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are. I think you can only buy the kit, not the tank alone, I may be wrong on that. Far from ADA or even Mr. Aqua but silicone is better than a standard 10 gallon on the sides, top has finished edges, etc. Black silicone though.
