Dry Start Method and Cladophora

Hi all,

I'm a new member, but have been reading this forum for a while. I have learnt a lot, but still have a lot to learn. I have a question regarding the Dry Start Method and algae growth (or, hopefully, death).

I am setting up a 6 gal planted tank and purchased a sheet of HC carpet from the top of a tank at my LFS. As I broke this sheet up into smaller sections, I noticed that it was riddled with a tough, dark green, fibrous mess, which seems to be Cladophora. In the last week, I have dry started the HC. I have not flooded the substrate, just misting to keep it damp and covering the tank with a piece of plastic wrap.

My questions are: Will the Cladophora die off during a dry start? Should I pull out the HC before it becomes established and try to pick the Cladophora out? Should I dose with Excel and hope it doesn't destroy the HC also? Or should I wait until I've flooded and introduced some shrimp and hope they have an appetite for the stuff?

My apologies if this has already been covered. I did search the forums, but couldn't find anything.
