Chicago tollways

So, short story long, me and my girlfriend were taking her autistic daughter to streamwood behavior center outside of Chicago. Coming from St. Louis, where there aren't any toll ways, we had no idea we were suppose to stop every few miles and pay. O.o We get to Streamwood, get her daughter all set up, and started talking about our trip up there with the nurse, asked her about the toll signs, she said not to worry about it, they would send us a bill for all the ones we passed. Well bill came, what she forgot to mention is they charge something like 20 bucks per missed toll. O.O After 3 trips there and back the bill came to 395ish bucks, WAY more than we can afford. My question is, is there any tips or tricks to get this bill lowered? Neither of us can work right now me having heart problems her having issues herself, the trip to streamwood is costing us 23 grand, so it's pretty obvious we can't afford another 400 for our stupidity about tolls.

Sorry about the problem. Maybe you can contact them directly and see if they can help you out, doubtful but you can always hope for the best.

Here is a link to the unpaid tolls page http://www.illinoistollway.com/tolls...s/unpaid-tolls

Contact them and ask for mercy, if you explain your situation you may find that there are allowances which can be made for situations like yours.

Send a nice Email to the Chicago Local TV news stations. definitely human interest story. We're two weeks before Christmas with30 lame duck seats in our statehouse. Send a similar letter to there director of the Tollway authority.

You have nothing to loose.

Good Luck

You can drive around it right? It'll take longer. And $20 per poll? That doesn't sound right.

Have lived in the Chicago area all my life. Several friends have had issues such as yours.
They called the Illinois Tollway system (I think you can find them online) asked for forgiveness and offer to pay the tolls. In Every case they were accommodated.
I would honestly explain that you have been traveling with a child that has issues and were not even aware that there were tolls to pay. Offer to pay telling them your financial situation.
Good luck, I hope you find them as compassionate as I expect they will be.
My only concern is that you got this big bill before you realized your error
Let all know how it works out

She sent a letter explaining how we were following an ambulance, hopefully that will do the trick. Now we just have to wait on snail mail.
