P.S. Anybody know why my female discus would get ugly and dark all the time? The pair spawn every few weeks so I'm assuming they are healthy and comfortable. She used to be vibrant and gorgeous like the male. Over the last 8 weeks or so shes just been really dark and ugly. Didn't change food or other factors. She also doesn't exhibit any strange new behaviors. Hoping it's a temporary thing....

Discus still eating?

- Eating like a champ

Need a picture.

- No picture. I'm on an airplane right now.

Any excess slime?

- Not that I can obviously notice.

When was the last time you changed water?

- Water changes are for suckers...

Then you got your answer there. If you honestly think you can keep discus without water changes, you have to research a little on what discus thrive on.

Sure, They were fine for at least 6 months with what I've been doing. Guess I'll try a water change or something...

Not going to try to tell you how you keep your discus but but the most important thing to remember when keeping discus is clean water.

People have spent years debating on the amount and frequency of water changes to get clean water but they all will agree that discus needs clean water.

Discus are actually very hardy. They don't usually flop over any die if they are not kept properly. Instead, their condition slowly deteriorate and waste away. It's one thing to keep discus alive but having them thrive.. that's totally different.
