Apple snails/ mystery snail baby questions..
So, I've done it before, though I only had twelve babies, and nine survived. Their now four months old and are really healthy.
But now, two of my females have had egg sacks, tthe first hatched, and the second is now, and I already have 47 of the little guys!!! And there's way more in the tank! [i only nab em when the come up on the glass, it's a lot easier that way.] The tank is a 2.5, kept at 68-69 degrees, no heater, sponge filter, 50% water changes every other day. Will this be okay for the babies? They are all tiny, about this size (.)

WOW. nice job.
Im not sure that 2.5g is going to be large enough. Maybe right now. BUT that is alot of snails and very little surface area for all of them to cruise around on. Id go pick up a 10g at the LEAST to put them in. You could also post them for sale to thin out the herd. Id buy a couple. Good luck

They will be fine, but a larger tank may be in order.

Maybe I will sell em! I've never sold anything on the forum though!
I have a spare 5.5 I was gonna tranfer em to today, hopefully they'll be okay in there til there about 3 months...then they'll be big enough not to lose in a tank... I have six snails, two of which are female, right now they are seperated from the males, cause for some reason, they all decided to breed at once! Those poor females were getting two at a time sometimes, and u figured they needed a break!

Oh it doesn't matter if they keep laying eggs, I'm okay with that, I just felt bad that they were continuously getting sexed! The boys WOULD NOT leave them alone!
I thought a way to stop them from laying eggs was to raise the water level so there was no where for them to lay? How often can they lay eggs? My female laid three sacks in a row, though one fell off, and it got damaged in the water...my Goldie's enjoyed eating it! Would anyone be interested in an egg sack? I don't have any now, but I have a feeling it'll happen again soon! What temp shoud I keep the babies at for optimal growth?

Also, I'm assuming the yellow shells are a recessive trait? All my babies are blue or dark brown! The newer babies I can't tell, though I hope at least some of them are yellow! The yellows are my favorite...
One of my females is yellow and one of my males...I KNOW they mated...for like two hours! I'm pretty sure the second egg sack is theirs..

Yellows are recessive. It's a lack of pigment.
Here's a nice chart for ya on colors: http://www.angelfire.com/va/myevolut.../bridgesii.htm

Wow nice thats a bit of babys congrats! I wish we could find other colors then just the browns around here. MY 2 3/4 year old likes them and wants to "get them all" but I dont really like the brown thats around here. But the poss of getting some blues would be great or yellows too. I would love to get an egg sack and maybe a few babys too.

My four month olds are what im calling blues, they have blue feet, with orange markings, and thier shells are a greyish blue, though that might change, since they are so young.
The babies are 1 week- two weeks old, and they all seem to be blues, but its rather hard to tell. The four month olds may well be browns that havent gotten all thier colors yet...They are my first batch of apple babies, and actually had to remove the sack from the glass, [i was switching tanks] and didnt really know what to do with it after, so i made a contraption out of a terracotta pot, a tupperware and a nylon..crude, but it worked, though i got way less babies than the smaller sacks that were left in the glass. Im not even sure how to ship the babies, but if i can figure it out, how big are your tanks? would you want the four month olds or the babies? I dont know if your apples have markings on theier bodies [not thier shells] but heres a site that shows them close up..Mine have markings almost identical only hey are a brighter orange. http://www.applesnail.net/forum3/vie...16176&start=45
