40 breeder rimless star fire led build

So... It's isn't finished yet, but here it is tonight. Still a lot of work to do, but it does have water in it.

This tank will have full co2, an eheim 2028 canister, and 3 x 10 watt LEDs (ebay) housed in the ikea light fixture above the aquarium. Two are 6500k and one is 10000k.

Plants will be pretty simple; crypts, anubias, and something forgroundy. maybe glosso but more likely eleocharis. Fish will be my colony of f1 rio otapa sword tails, plus cherry and Amano shrimp, and my pair of gold anistrus plecos. I may also throw in a dwarf cichlid pair but that will be further down the road.

The stand will be covered in a grey fabric matching our couches.

Thanks for all the kind words....

Progress: fish have been transported 250 miles to our new home, light is up, canister is running, bit messy looking. Need to re-trim hoses, get co2 back online, etc. HD pics will come when the water clears.

Looks like I'm going to want to replace my current anubias with something with smaller leaves. Looks a bit out of place. Lots of aquascaping to be done.

Thanks! Even if it was a pity post...

I managed a decent shot of my clown loach group; they are still skinny from being at the pet store, but they're coming along.

So the tank is growing in nicely, and the bba is fading away, as I am able to spend time on this tank again, plus I needed a CO2 refill pretty badly.

If anyone is wondering, this tank has two types of crypt in the background, anubias in the foreground; if you look closely you can see that I've added a much smaller leafed anubias as well, but that will take a long time to grow in. Also, some java fern on the rootwood and xmas moss or flame moss also on the root wood.

I got a few nice pics, and one of my rio otapa swordtail females popped out about 15 fry that I managed to isolate into a breeder, plus I got a reasonable pic of one of the males; I think they're amazing looking fish.

That is a really neat little fish. The tank is looking good. I like your lighting idea. Does the ikea fixture hold the leds or is it just a shade around a different fixture?

Thanks!

So I basically affixed two ebay 10W LED's to an aluminum heatsink with a silver heat transfer compound. This heat sink/led gizmo sits on two planks of wood inside the ikea fixture, with a gap in between where the led's are. I'm not sure if that answers your question. The ikea shade is definately holding everything up, but inside it is a DIY LED construct on a heatsink.

I'll take some shots of it, and that should clear it up.
