Thanks. I am thinking glosso to carpet the front sides of the tank going down the hill from the Val's, and hopefully a bit into the valley.

OP - just keep on looking and take your time and you'll find something that will work out perfectly for you!

Default my 50 scape

I had a hard time finding driftwood for my tank. Looked for about a month and i have moved things around alot.
This is what it looks like now

I eventually want to upgrade to a 75 for more ground space.

You're right the dimensions of a 55 gal. can be the biggest PITA to try to scape. Out of the hundreds of 55 gal. scapes I have seen only maybe 2 looked really good. Here is the best hardscape that I have seen in a 55 gal that gives the tank a sense of depth, which is so hard to do with the shallow depth front to back in a 55 gal. and the guy is from Colorado like you.

55's are one of (if not the) worst sizes ever created - if you specifically set out to design an aquarium that would be impossible to aquascape, you couldn't do much better. Anyone who manages to make one look good has my utmost respect - but I'm also saddened to think of what glorious heights such a talented aquascaper might have achieved with a tank that wasn't working against them every step of the way.

In contrast to the 55's, the old 50 gal shorts (36"x18"x18") are a dream to aquascape. I will never forgive aquarium manufactures for abandoning 50 shorts in favour of 55's; they are clearly a bunch of sadists.
