Default Collected Driftwood

Hi all,

I am new to planted tanks, but have been keeping fish for very many years. I am setting up a 90, will have RO, Co2, good substrate and lights.

My question is about driftwood. I live in Western Montana near Flathead Lake (huge, very clean). There is abundant beautiful driftwood on the shores this time of year. Does anyone have insight on collecting (good or dangerous) or preparing 'wild' wood?

I am excited about Aqatic Gardening, being a professional Horticulturist for 45 years. I have been landscaping huge gardens for so long, this mini world is a welcome change.

The plan involves South American dwarf Cichlids, Charicins, and other compatables. Not a strict biotope tank.

Thanks for any feedback,
Miriam
