Shipping plants in cold weather

I wasn't really sure where to put this, so if it needs moved, feel free.

I have bought plants from the S&S forum before on a few occasions, but I have never shipped plants and I've never shipped anything in the winter. I just agreed to send some plants to someone, but I'm a bit worried about the cold. I checked the forecast for both my region and the region I'll be sending the plants to and both areas will be above freezing, but still in the high 30's - low 40's at night. I still see lots of plants for sale in the S&S forum, so I'm wondering how the people selling those plants ensure they get to their destination in good shape while still using priority flat-rate shipping.

Just got a shipment of plants the other day. They were from another PT member. Traveled only 2 states, but the temps were probably high 30s at night and low 50s during the day.

They were packed in plastic bags and some shredded paper in the box. Some plants had bare roots, others had wet rockwool.

But they made it fine. 2 days travel time.

If you're worried, insulate the box with styrofoam (flat or peanuts) around the bagged plants & throw a hunter's handwarmer in the package.

As long as the temps are above freezing, the plants will be fine. I do use a lot of newspaper - one of the best insulation known to man. Just ask that guy sleeping under the bridge.

the smooth type(color ad prints) or the normal rough daily paper type?
