What is this growing?

Since I bought my purple cabomba a couple weeks ago it has had another stem growing off the side of one stem. The growth is slower and the leaves are completely different. Is this some form of soon to be emersed growth or something else? Sorry for the poor photo.

Ah, thanks. Hopefully it will continue to the surface and actually flower. That would be a first for me.

He said it was growing from the stem of his Cabomba so the idea that it's a different kind of plant is not possible. It is in fact the flower stalk to the Cabomba as I have had it do this before. It happens a lot more when the plant is grown outside like I did in my pond.

Thanks for correcting. Most of my cabomba flowers were white and they sprung up the water. :3
