Don't know about any connection to any Adolph but the sentence, to me, belongs to a larger saying: "there is what you know, there is what you know you dont know, and then there is what you dont even know you don't know". Significant to me is the relative quantity of the last of the set of three packets of information. Whatever the quantity relationship of the first two sets may be, the last set "what you don't even know you don't know" is practically infinite, encompasing everything in the universe(s) which lies beyond the horizon of each of our personal knowledge spheres. I know that what I know is very, very, very nearly... nothing.

This had nothing to do with Adolph. While I was reading some of the posts here Fringe was on and that happened to be said. I liked it so I put it up. It's actually an old line.
