CRS winter breeding

My CRS often will not breed very much during the winter months. Does anyone have any methods that they use so that these shrimp don't wait until spring comes before they get busy again? I keep the temp and photo period constant.

I think they sense something with pressure too xD I'm not sure though.

I agree that pressure may in some way deal with shrimp breeding. When that storm came through my area the pressure dropped way down. Yesterday and today I have the highest percentage of berried shrimp I have ever had.

pressure plays a big roll in it im sure. i know all but my crs have pretty much stopped breeding since we had our first cold spell at the first of oct. even though we got good and warm again even in the 80's for part of the month they have stopped. not sure y my crs are still breeding like rabbets though

Mine have kicked into breeding with the cooler weather and season change. Summer they didn't, it was too hot here. AC's and fans may simulate the cool air but the shrimp don't buy it, it just helped keep them alive and bacteria down. Since the first cool weather hit and my tank dropped 6 degrees naturally, its been molts and berries a lot more for my CRS.

I've only been breeding CRS since July. I had a few berried the first 2 months. Non since the first cold front came in. Not sure why mine arent breeding when others are in the winter. Must be another factor. My Neo's could care less. They are still breeding like rabbits.

Mine are this way too. I had no berried female until just the last 2 months. Now I have 2 batches on the ground and at least 3 females berried up. I hope they continue! ;-)

Mine defiantly slowed down, but higher temps seem to push things along anyways. Until my test subject dropped her eggs, grrr

mine did not breed at all last winter for 3-4 months. Then they've been getting berried non stop since late spring. Maybe partly because I changed from eco-complete to FSS but i'm also convinced that winter had something to do with it. This year will confirm though.

If you want, get a heater to keep the tank at ~70.
