Petsmart gift cards
HI all,
Just looking for some random ideas here. I recently received several gift cards from Petsmart for my birthday (ya for family supporting the addiction). The cards total $70. Unfortunately Petsmart doesnt carry the two things I need most a tds meter and gh/kh test kits. So with the idea in mind my current lightly (so far) planted tank is to be converted to a shrimp tank (neos til I know what I'm doing) what would you guys recommend I buy? At the moment based on their stock (not much in the way of shrimp stuff) I was thinking maybe of stocking up on meds? Any other ideas? |

Have you checked Petsmart's website? I've KH kits there in the past.
What equipment do you currently have? That'll help us make recommendations. If you're buying everything there? You'll want: Tank Lighting Substrate (sand/flourite/whatever you choose) Filter Prime And you're good to go. If you want meds, I'd buy them after you get everything else that you want. If there's something you want like a TDS meter, maybe you could buy something at Petsmart and then sell it on one of the auction sites so you can then buy a TDS meter online?

Yes been checking petsmarts site and store for the past couple weeks. They haven't carried the gh/kh tests in that time.
This tank has been running for about a month currently. It is a 45 flat back hex with a tidepool sump. The overflow is via standpipe which I am adding a sponge prefilter to. The return is via spraybar running almost the entire 48" length back to front. Currently running two layers of filter pads and one layer of carbon in media chambers. I have a 200w adjustable heater in the sump. One large piece of manzanita branch. Plants so far are java moss, small piece of recovering hitchhiker fissidens, Lilaeopsis mauritiana, dhg, Rotala Indica, frogbit and dwl. Current cyclers are guppies lol which wont stop breeding. umm also have a air driven sponge filter and lighting is by two 55w linear cfls. substrate is mgops capped with black diamond sand. I just found hardness tests in their API Marine kit.
You may want to check with your local store to see if they're available in their system to bring into inventory. Locally, I have several Petsmart locations. Some cater to fresh, some marine. Each have different aquaria supplies. Sometimes it even varies from store to store that cater only to fresh. It's worth a shot to ask.

Is there anything that you would like to replace?
You could just stock up on replacement bulbs for the cfl and maybe get some colored led backlighting for effect.

Depending upon the plants you're interested in, you may find a ton of great goodies at Petsmart. There's one near me that has all kinds of Anubias, moss, the occasional Crypt, swords, Bacopas of all sorts, hair grass, ferns.
