nice scape you got there. The driftwood could use a little work, I feel like it shouldn't look like an arc and have a base with a few points and sticks sticking out but that's just what I would do.

Any plans for livestock?

I can't tell how much water you have in there. A "dry start" doesn't mean dry, just no water above the substrate surface. With your hilly terrain in the tank it is going to be difficult to keep a good level of water for all of the HC. But, at least get the water level up to the level of the lowest spots on the substrate.

Ah, there's your problem! Like Hoppy said, dry start doesn't actually mean DRY start. The water level must be filled to reach the level just where the substrate ends, basically.
Hmm... I'm thinking the leaves are yellowing for the exact opposite reason. :s Even most land plants MUST have their dirt soaked thoroughly with water every few days, or else they dry to death.
