New to AZ
Just moved to Phoenix. Settled in and ready to start a planted tank.
I have 20 gal ready to go. Just some questions - what type of fish and plants do well in the Phx water? Seems on hard side (understatement). What's the best (assortment, quality) LFS east of the 51 and north of the 10? Thanks Arizonians!

ha ha, I just moved from Gilbert to Portland. You got the better deal though. The best LFS by far is Aquatouch. Its up in that area.

Thanks, Ive been there a few times lately. The Wet Spot has more tanks but Aquatouch is very nice. It is a top quality place. One of the few, if not only, LFS in the Valley that has plants and harder to find fish and shrimp.

I'll hit you up with one more, where I bought my inverts - World of Wet Pets -8542 SW Apple Way, Portland, OR 97225. To me it's basically Hillsboro and it's in a small corner shopping center near an old movie theater (theater is great too... damn I miss Oregon).

I'll have to check that one out.
Its been raining for a few days now, I bet you do miss it in that heat. Just wait till December, you will never want to go back to Oregon after an Arizona winter.

Ditto! TPT is great, but AAPE has awesome people you can meet with and trade. Aquatouch is BY FAR the best place in the valley. I was there on Monday. They had blue/green rilis, fire reds, crystal white bees, amano's, and tiger shrimp. That's unheard of! Anyway, welcome to the valley of the shadow of death. Lol. Kind of a bad time to move here. Oh well. I moved here 7 july's ago and my AC went out on the first day I was here. The compressor was like "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?!?!?

I use a spectropure RO/DI system for water in my reef and planted tank. I get 350-450 TDS from tap water in north phoenix.

If you ever end up in Tucson be sure to stop into:
Arizona Nature Aquatics 3025 N. Campbell Ave, suite 181 Tucson AZ 85719 They're one of three ADA & Do!Aqua dealers in the US I believe. Beautiful store. I've only been there once while in town on a business trip. |

There are 2 distributors (ADG and AFA) and 17 retailers in the United States, ANA being only one of them.

Also, in general when one says cichlids go well in AZ water, they mean the Rift Lake cichlids. Apistos and rams usually need softer water than our straight tap. I kept discus that bred in hard water but the eggs did not survive; AZ Discus breeds his in RO only, I believe.
