I'm definitely not the dictionary cop, but this does at least answer your question. From the New Oxford American Dictionary (on my Mac):
emersed |iˈmərst|
adjective Botany

denoting or characteristic of an aquatic plant reaching above the surface of the water. Contrasted with submersed (see submerse).

ORIGIN late 17th cent.: from Latin emersus ‘arisen,’ past participle of emergere (see emerge ).

Cool! I guess my older comp doesn't have the updated dictionary.

...wouldn't it be cool if this forum was responsible for the origin of that word?

You know, I think I'm going to put that at the head of this journal. give it some class beyond it's current name.
