Any idea what kind of wood this is?

Paper thin smooth bark, hard, no smell. It is about as thick as my arm, found on throw away pile in woods.

Looks like dogwood to me.

Look at the trees in the area where you found it. Odds are it came from a tree close by and wasn't carried into the woods separately. Once you match it up with a tree, you have more you can use for identification, such as the tree's leaves.
