More CO2 regulator questions
Before spending money on my last few parts I was hoping for just a little more advice.
Here are the main items for consideration prior to building my regulator:
I have an inline bubble counter.
I want an accurate and sturdy rig requiring little maintenance.
I want stainless Swagelok components.
My regulator has 1/4” orifices.
My JBS solenoid with 1/8” orifices (almost ordered the SS Burkert 6011 but bought the JBS while on travel, less Amp draw and I was told it was super reliable)
Before I order a my parts I just wanted to make sure I understand all the guidance I've received so far:
Basically at the regulator install it's normal to install a reduction nipple, 1/4” to 1/8” and then all remaining fitting will be 1/8”.
For a 30 gallon tank I was going to use an S series Swagelok. I have gotten advice on that or the M series but for small tanks it seems a lower flow coefficient valve would be better. Just guessing, I have no experience here.
Is there a reason that a needle valve are not connected directly to the regulator using the 1/4” fitting and then reduced from there? This is opposite to most setups I've seen where the solenoid is closer to the regulator than the needle valve. What is the reason one setup is preferred over the other?
Are the threads under the nut on Swagelok Tube Fittings just MNPT or some odd proprietary threading?
Here are some parts that have been recommended to me:
SS-SS2-D (Low-Flow Double Pattern Metering Valve, 1/8 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting)
SS-SS2-A-VH (Low-Flow Angle-Pattern Metering Valve, 1/8 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting, Vernier Handle)
B-SS4-A (Low-Flow Angle-Pattern Metering Valve, 1/4 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting)
SS-SS4-A-VH (Low-Flow Angle-Pattern Metering Valve, 1/4 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting, Vernier Handle)
B-SM2-A (Brass Low-Flow Angle-Pattern Metering Valve, 1/8 in. MNPT)
SS-SM2-S2-A (Low-Flow Angle-Pattern Metering Valve, 1/8 in. MNPT x 1/8 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting)
SS-4-HRN-2 (Hex Reducing Nipple, 1/4 in. Male NPT x 1/8 in. Male NPT)
SS-2-SE (Street Elbow, 1/8 in. Female NPT x 1/8 in. Male NPT)
SS-2C4-1/3 (Poppet Check Valve, Fixed Pressure, 1/8 in. FNPT, 1/3 psig)
SS-400-1-2 (Swagelok Tube Fitting, Male Connector, 1/4 in. Tube OD x 1/8 in. Male NPT)
Ferrels and a couple tubing inserts that are recommended to have spares of.
SS-402-1(316 Stainless Steel Nut for 1/4 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting)
SS-403-1 (316 Stainless Steel Front Ferrule for 1/4 in. Swagelok Tube Fitting)
SS-405-2 (Stainless Steel Tubing Insert, 1/4 in. OD x 1/8 in. ID)
