My Single CPD Fry! WOOT!

Was staring at my 9g for a bit last night and saw this!

(bad pic, kept moving; smaller than a baby shrimp)

Only saw one I have 2 males 2 females in the tank, densely planted, lots of moss. Hope he makes it, I threw in some Hikari first bites. No way I can catch it.

One female seems bloated with eggs still, going to do a w/c today and feed some some live food. I haven't fed anything in this tank for a few weeks...

CPDS pretty much spawn continuously if they are happy. The trick is keeping them from eating their eggs.

If you are interested in increasing their fry output check this site out: http://www.celestialpearldanio.com/ It has a lot of information about breeding setups.

I also recommend feeding microworms and Golden Pearls: http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/oth...icle-c149.html, the golden pearls especially have made my life easier.

Congratulations!
They'll eat the fry too though. You might think about a growup tank for them. I used to put them in my shrimp tanks till they got big enough to eat baby shrimp & too big for the adult CPDs mouths

Don't get me started about platies, I started with 2, those 2 birthed 20, then those 20 each birthed more...

Now I have.. 50+ I throw into a bucket of mud outside. Never doing livebearers again!

You're right about the fry though, I found 3 more I managed to scoop up and threw them in my 5g with PFRs. They're drawn to light, must be infusoria there, I tossed in some first bites and microworms and they're nomming happily

HA! That's what I said... five years ago. They're like roaches. Just can't get rid of them.

At least you have endlers

I finally realized my platies actively hunting out baby shrimp (why I don't have a lot of cherries in the 20L)... after sending some fry to diwu and hearing about the genocide in his tank. Oops.

They're useful for fertilizing plants in non-shrimp tanks still, I have some in a few plant buckets outside.

Aw cutie! Congrats! I hope it's just hiding. I have CPDs in a 40 gal; I've seen them spawn but never any babies; I'm sure the eggs get eaten either by them or the Corys. If you can find it again maybe try catching it and putting it in a breeder net to keep it safe?

You need a predator fish to scarf up all those delicious fry!
