better gh test kit
I have the API gh test kit, but I hate trying to read it. Is there an easier reading liquid gh test kit that you guys recommend?

What problem are you having with reading it? You put drops into the tube and shake until the water turns green.

The color, my house doesn't have the best light and try to see if its a very light orange or a very light green on a piece of paper is a pain. It might be my eyes so that why I'm asking for something that has more of a color change like the kh

I totally rely and recommend API tests. Hopefully someone else knows of other tests.

I absolutely hate the GH test. It doesn't say what shade of green indicates the GH level. I just assume my tap is around 3-6 but it's hard to say.

A drop of test solution in the tube with 5 ml of tank water, put on the cap, shake, check colour. Repeat until it changes from light orange (get darker as more solution drops added) to any shade of green. Unless you have difficulty telling orange and green it shouldn't be too hard. it's the API nitrate test kid I have trouble telling 10 from 20 ppm (if I really want to know then I dilute the tank water with ro and test again)

Obsessed? Maybe

Sera is my favorite brand of GH & KH test kits. Colors are easier to read and changes are much more noticeable than API.

Then your GH is less than 1. If you really want to know, use 10ml of water, 1 drop turns green then your GH is less than 0.5. Then again, 15ml of water, 1 drop turns green then it's less than 0.33..... but does it really matter if it's 0.1 or 0.8?

There a chart for color blind people.
Don't remember the site but I think I still have it. I'll check the pc and see later. It isn't that hard to read, there really nothing to read. Count the drop. Best way to read the color is from the top. Unplug the cap, put it next to something white, under some 6500k light will give you a better read. If its green and you don't see any Orange its done. |
