Platies and gouramies?

I'm planning to set up a new tank in the fall, haven't decided what size yet (~30-60 gal). I want to move all the platies over from my current 10-gal (making that one into a dwarf putter tank!). I'm trying to decide on inhabitants for the new tank. I'm thinking a pair of pearl gouramies, some sparkling gouramies, and Ottos. Maybe a school of neons. Just wondering if the platies will get along with the gouramies. I read that the gouramies shouldn't be kept with boisterous fish. Platies are generally considered good community fish, but they seem boisterous to me! Any thoughts? I'm open to other suggestions of fish to go with the platies. Something interesting, medium-sized, not too difficult. Maybe Killies?

pearl gouramis and sparkling gouramis are relative peaceful, for gouramis. they should be fine with platies. they may zip around a lot, but they're not aggressive, and i think that's what they recommend against for gouramis because they can get really aggressive when provoked.

in a larger tank like that, you'll have few issues between those sp, so i wouldn't worry. I have pearl gouramis, otos, white clouds, bentos tetras, a koi angel, and a small harem of platys in my 55g. they don't bother each other at all, except sometimes the tetras get a little nippy amongst their own, but that should be normal, esp. w/ schoolers.

Good to know, thanks! I've always wanted to keep gouramies, but I've had my platies for 11 years, so I can't get rid of them.

i have right now a few gouramis with a bunch of platies in a 10 gallon tank. the gouramis are fairly peaceful. i think they are dwarf gouramis. they are doing fine and have been for about 2 or 3 years now.

I have two golden gouramis and one picks on the other. I think they are both female. Not sure if I should add another to make it a lil group. But hey thats just my experience from getting them a week ago.
