Advantages to DSM with HC

I've noticed that a lot of people use dry starts with HC carpets. So what's so great about that? I got 2 pots of HC from AFA two days ago, and I currently have it immersed with wet soil and 2x daily mistings. From what I've heard, using that DSM with HC can melt a lot of it. Should I flood the tank soon and start my cycling, or should I wait a week?

I used the dry start method, but I think my HC was already growing emersed when I received it, so there was no melting. But they look like they need some fertilizing because some of the leaves are turning yellow. I have straight eco-complete with no additives. I have sprayed some nitrogen on them and a lot of the leaves are bright green again.

I bought HC from live aquaria and just put it in my cycled tank with Black Diamond and it recently started spreading pretty significantly. I run pressurized co2 and 78 watt t5ho in my 30 gallon.
