A lot of us reefers like mantis shrimp and pistol shrimps, some of us even have tanks devoted to them.. So they really are no big deal anymore.. its those worms. If I had the room Id have a mantis shrimp tank, but I will only have room when I sell my hand made wooden 4 store reptile cage. I used to have a pistol in my 8 gallon, but I threw him in to my friends 66 gallon salt and cleaned it out and decided to make it a freshwater planted tank.. Op. Id defiantly tear the tank apart and search the gravel or even replace it. With no fish in it, you wont have to worry about a small cycle spike from doing so.

Two questions from personal experience...
1) How good is the lid? and 2) Do you have a cat? |

Grrr... I typed out a response to all of you this morning and my internet quit on me before I could post it.
But in short. I'm avoiding redoing the whole tank as long as possible. A very good lid, I made is specifically to rule out the possibility of jumpers. Yes.. I have 3. They don't pay attention to fish tanks that much. I know its not them mainly because they cant get into this room unless I let them in. We adopted a 4 year old cat from a hoarder/alcoholic lady and she trained him to go on towels and blankets she would leave in the bathroom. Litterbox training him was a task and I'm fairly certain the catdoor into the garage is his arch nemesis for life. Every once in a blue moon the thought of having to go through it is so overbearing that he reverts back to his old habits. So my bedroom is always shuts. He only ever targets towels in the bathroom but I don't want to chance my mattress. So it remains closed and locked unless I'm in the room. |
