Discus
I know a lot of people say they are hard to keep but the article in this months pfk has made me think again about keeping them. One aspect that does puzzle me though is the magazine says 120l minimum tank size and 20l per fish.
A: does this mean you could have 6 discus in a 120l tank or 1 then for every other fish you need 20 more litres of water? B: I was told in the past a group of 5 adults would need a tank in the region of 60gallons (us). That's a big difference I just wanted to hear other people's experiences and opinions Juwel rio 180 2 angels 2 Siamese flying foxes 3 yo yo loaches 4 Julii corys 10 guppys 1 German blue ram |

A 120l tank is too small for keeping 5 discus.
A 60 gallon tank (approx.225l) would be a proper size for keeping 5 or 6 discus to maturity. Discus are not at all hard to keep, provided you get good quality, healthy, well-shaped stock from a reputable, experienced source to begin with. Be careful of tankmates for discus - some of your current fish would not likely be suitable tankmates - e.g. the Juwel Rio, the flying foxes - perhaps even the guppies ( possible snacks for the discus), and the Angels (careful here - they can tend to potentially cross-contaminate discus with harmful pathogens, or be too aggressive, out-competing them for food.) |

Oh I wouldn't be keeping them in a comm tank it would of been just them with some dithers and a couple of bottom dwellers. The post was more relating to the minimum tank size recommended by pfk an how it seems small even for a minimum school of 5/6
