Ammonia and Staghorn
I have had some small breakouts of staghorn lately. I dose KNo3, KH2PO4, Flourish Comprehensive, and Excel. I have 30+ ppm CO2. 50%+ water changes weeky. Low, Low/Medium light. I have read that Staghorn is often caused by ammonia spikes. I just tested my tap water, and I have between .5 and 1.0 ppm ammonia. I us a python for water changes and dose Prime according to the label, (add enough for total tank size). Would AmQuel work better? Any ideas?

It has been a long time since I had staghorn, and that was not in a tank with ammonia, though I have ammonia in the tap from chloramines.
2 tanks had staghorn, about 20 tanks did not, all on pretty much the same water change schedule. I use Chloramine Buster by Clear Pond. I do not know if the ingredients in the dehclor makes a difference in the way the ammonia is locked up (as long as it IS locked up) but maybe it does. |

The funny thing about it is, just yesterday I was noticing how green and healthy my mosses were looking. This morning I did my weekly water change, and now has quite a bit of staghorn in it again.
