What is this gunk?

So my ebi is in the process of a fishless cycle. I am 4 days in and this stuff is growing on my fluval shrimp stratum. Anybody know what it is? Algae or fungus?

i've never seen white algae...looks fungusy.

some gunk like that showed up some some dry aponogeton bulbs for me in the past, check for rotting organics, siphon it out...
