1g CFL lighting
I have a few 1g tanks with clamp on shop lights for lighting, right now they're running 10000k 13w CFL bulbs because that's what I had laying around. I only let the bulbs burn for a few hours a day because any more than that and I grow ridiculous ammounts of algae, yet plants do not do well in these tanks. Either they get too little light and melt, or they get too much light and are rapidly choked out by nasty algae growing on their leaves.
I'm thinking that I will have better luck with a lower wattage bulb, but how low should I go? I'm not looking to grow very difficult plants, just easy ones to provide cover for my growing babies.
