1st set up
whats up guys first post here
just started my low tech so far i have 180 gallon 6x2x2 tera vita leonardite capped with eco complete as my substrate a few peices of driftwood some slate rock and as for the plants dawrf baby tears lace java fern brazilian pennyworth dwarf hair grass cyperus dwarf lily plant micro swords octopus plants im running 4 36inch 10000k t8 bulbs but was thinking of switching to 2 36 inch 6500k t5 bulbs for my lights hope this wont be to much lighting i just set it all up yesterday and hit it with 3 cap fulls of seachem flourish complete i really hope this works out as im so stoked about low tech please if you guys think i did or need to do something else please tell me ill post up some pix tonight ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hello max...
Welcome! Tank has got to be nice. Great size with plenty of room to work. 6500K bulbs are the way to go. They come closest to natural daylight at 5500K. The T5s will give you good intensity. After several years using the T8s and T12s, i recently switched to T5s and have the added LEDs in the strip. Really brightens up my tanks. The plants are doing nicely. Am getting into "terraphyte" tank keeping. It's a little twist on standard tank keeping. Anyway, keep us posted on your tank and include some pics if poss. B

I think the lighting in your tank would be low/medium or maybe medium depending on reflectors. The 2 t5' would probably be high light, again depending on reflectors. I think the dwarf hair grass, and the dwarf baby tears will need the higher light, but they are also going to need co2 and the rest of the fertilizers with the high light. If you want to stay low tech, then do a little more research on the plants and see what will live in the light levels you have.

thanks for all the reveiws and comments
i know about the baby tears but my neighbor grows them and he gave me a few to try out should i be dosing the tank with anything else beside seachems flourish ? |
