RO/DI Water and TDS?

Hey guys I have a quick question for ya,

When remineralizing RO/DI water to get the proper GH (I'm going to 5 and using Alpha Pro Breeders Bee Shrimp Mineral GH+). The problem is I get a GH of 5 and the TDS is really really low, 68-72. Is this ok, I have seen a lot of people shooting between 120-200? Should I add other minerals that will increase the TDS without increasing the GH like Mosura TDS Up, or mineral rocks, etc.?

I use the same stuff. For a gh of 5 my tds is 90-100 ppm.

Do you add other minerals or rocks to bring that number up, or do you just leave it?

I think for most of those you should be good
All conditions vary but who ever you source them from I would try and match their conditions, but a general is below. Your TB like clean water and low TDS so those would love it

BB - Should be good -ph5.0-6.2
BKK - Should be good -ph5.0-6.2
PRL - Might want to bump this a little higher maybe 120 5.0-6.6
Mixed Grade CRS - Might want to bump this a little higher maybe 120 PH 5.0-6.66
Super Tigers - They like a little harder water so you could go to 6 GH here and they like a little higher TDS - 6.4-7.4
BTOE - They like a little harder water so you could go to 6 GH here and they like a little higher TDS, from what I have been told at least 175 tops 230 Ph 6.4-7.4
OEBT - They like a little harder water so you could go to 6 GH here and they like a little higher TDS, 165-210, ph 6.4-7.4
Royal Blue
Red Rili - Should do well in anything as long as you PH is not to low sub 6 or to high 7.8+
Painted Yellow -Should do well in anything as long as you PH is not to low sub 6 or to high 7.8+
Snowball
Pumpkins
PFR - Should do well in anything as long as you PH is not to low sub 6 or to high 7.8+

Very informative thank you. However 4 tanks are linked to one sump and another 4 to a different sump. I plan to keep tigers and neos in same conditions with inert gravel as substrate and TB/CRS on ADA Africana. So I will have to keep TB/Mixed grade CRS/PRL all in the same conditions of low TDS. I think they will adapt as the mix grade will be of less sensitive strain.

Here is a link to the journal of the 2 systems

I think it really depends on how 'clean' the remineralizer product is. If the gH remineralizer is very pure, 5 gH should be ~90ppm. I know for fluval remineralizer they have other minerals in the mixture, so a gH of 5 is around 160TDS.

my Bee Shrimp Mineral GH+ from Salty Shrimp (german guys from garnelenhaus.de) gives me around 120 tds with just 1 attached spoon (3g) for around 10 litres of RO water. didnt measure GH but it should be in line.

I use the same stuff. For me it's 1 included spoon full per 5g. On the back it says 1 included spoon full ~200 TDS.

i am just correcting, there are mentioned microsiemens, not ppm in which TDS is measured.

When calculating between microsiemens and ppm it is about 0.5-0.67, so 200 microsiemens is around 120 TDS. Confirmed also by Carsten from Salty Shrimp.

on the package it mentions also that 1 full spoon takes GH to 6 and/or 200 microsiemens per 20 litres, i get these readings for 10 litres, not sure about GH, need to measure it. i am more TDS oriented on these remineralizators

Ah! Thank you for correcting me. I just learned something new.

For whatever it is worth, it brings my 5 gallon bucket up to 6 gh for water changes.

I get the same results except I'm dosing 20 gallons of water (76l)
