CO2 Diffused Through Filter Intake?

I own a Eshoppes Wet Dry Filter, I am using a water pump obviously to pump water back into my aquarium. My question is, can I place my ceramic disc diffueser by the intake of the water pump and diffuse the CO2 that way? or will this not work? I have tried it but it creates tons of micro bubbles and it kinda makes the tank look ugly. I would like to know how reactors work as well, does one install it through the return line of the water pump or is it a separate unit all together?

I think it would work fine, most people do try to cover the top of the wet/dry and tape it up to keep the CO2 in the water.
