Week 1 update:

Not much growth in the tank. I haven't seen any flies/planaria since I dosed fenbendazole
And I downgraded to 15 watt CFLs instead of 20 watts just because I don't want to inject CO2.
Sorry for the blurry pics; again, I take pictures with my iphone

HC's starting to 'stand up' so I guess nothing's gone wrong *yet*. :P

Pre-Vacation Update:

HC is doing really well, DHG & Microsword still leggy. The flies and planaria are all gone, and I'm going on a cruise for 2 weeks, so I dosed a heavy amount of ferts to keep the plants nourished.

I hope the HC survives 11 days without fertilization. I dosed 1.5-2x the recommended amount of flourish today. Would that help?

There's one more day until I get back home. I know that all my fish are okay but I'm not sure about my DSM.

When I got home most of the foreground was covered, so I decided to fill at 4 weeks. The result? I wish that kids could have more patience. Most of the HC hung on, but a lot floated. The water is still cloudy but I am putting a Penguin 150 (FYI rated for 30G) on the tank, just because I had a spare. Boy, the filter is strong! The whole tank water pretty much swirls around. I also put in my last shrimps-two blue pearls that survived my poor acclimation-twice. This time I did it right and they survived the night but one was a bit spooked when the lights turned on. The fluval shrimp stratum covered all but on strand of DHG, but the hill that formed looks really cool, so I'm just going to plant over it. There wasn't
much DHG to start with anyway.

No pics yet because I just got a fancy new camera and I still have to figure out how to upload pics.

Scratch the ludwigia and rili shrimp idea.

It's now been 3 days since the flooding. The HC has shown no melting whatsoever because I put in 3x the recommended dosage of Excel and lowered it each day. I also put in pygmy chain swords. Lastly, I have a Hagen Elite Mini coming in the mail so I can set up my DIY CO2 system. Then I'll order my OEBTs and then in the future, babaultis.

I gave up on trying to get pics with the fancy-shmancy camera, so I'm just using the iPhone from now on. The HC hasn't melted, there's no algae (except for that white stuff on the driftwood), and the shrimps are doing well. My DIY CO2 system will have 1/4 tsp of yeast, will that be safe for OEBTs? And I'll put an airline in the venturi port of the Hagen Elite Mini on a timer so I don't gas my shrimps.

The only thing that's wrong with the tank is that it's not grown in yet.

Update

I can't find my two blue pearls anywhere in the tank; no signs of rotting bodies but I did find molts. Sponges are on every filter on the tank, so they couldn't have been sucked up. There's only a tiny crack where the filter goes, but I don't think they could have escaped from there. I had really come to like those two blue pearls.

On the brighter side, I would like to get another species of neo to compliment my future OEBTs. Any suggestions?

And my Hagen Elite Mini CO2 is coming in the mail for DIY co2, so that means between my three filters (Biowheel 150, TOM dive clean mini, and Hagen Elite) I would have a whopping 253 GPH flow rate! That's about 4 1/5 gallons PER MINUTE!

Edit: I actually found the two blue pearls, and one of them was berried! This is my first berried shrimp, so I hope she doesn't drop the eggs.

My Hagen Elite Mini came in the mail today, and man, it makes super tiny bubbles! The only problem is that my DIY CO2 frequently turns 'on' and 'off'; it produces bubbles and then suddenly doesn't.
