What kind of algae is this?
Hey all
I could use your expertise is letting me know what kind of algae this is and how I can stop it. The algae appeared under my new lights, it seems to be directly caused by them. My current photo period is 5 hours. My lights are two 23watt 6500k CFLs. The tank is a 125gal Red Eared Slider and Rosy Red Minnow tank. I'm trying to grow some Java Moss and slowly convert it into a fully planted tank so I added the lights over spring break. These photos were taken by my mom. I'm away at college. If you need any better pictures you'll have to wait. *edit* I should add that this is a low tech tank, no CO2 or ferts. *Double edit* I just realized that I posted this in the wrong section. I'm sorry. Here are the pics. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks more like brown diatoms. Common in newly setup tanks. I will probably go away on it's own. You could get a couple of ottos in there to control it.
