You could paint there would be no issue with fuems. Just do not get any in the tank. Latex paint is very harless.... Heck you could eat some and it would just give you soft stools for a a 4 hour window or so. I painted for years and this new latex stuff is harmless, but good! I will send pics when I paint my 20L with shrimp in it!

i used black acrylic paint for wood you know the little bitty bottles that are like a buck and sponged it on several of my tanks and it will come off later if need be no harm to fish or shirmp and no smell

+1... its removable incase you need to repurpose and can vary to allow certain amount of light in, if you so wished.

I got scared reading your post. It started to sound like you were gonna send pics of soft stool...
