If I were you I'd get rid of that rock in there. It looks like a blueberry muffin, I would suggest adding a piece of DW instead. Also it is normal for submerged plants to experience a die back when they are grown emersed and en vice versa when they are submerged again.

Yeah I'll probably get rid of the rock. You're right it does look like a blueberry muffin! I guess I'm still a little too scared to try emersed right now. Maybe later when I'm better at planting!

It's also safer if you don't know if your plants are suitable for emersed either.
