Long time planted tank keeper and tropical fish breeder. What others have said about the local water is accurate. Your plants will do fine. However, you will need RO if you ever need to spawn fish from the Amazon or Congo Basins as TDS in tap water here is too high.

LFS scene is less than optimal, and you will be better served making contacts with local breeders and growers.

If you love the outdoors and sunshine, you should enjoy living in the Front Range area.

Welcome to CO.

Just an FYI: I spent the day driving around the metro area's LFS (I live in Boulder) and Neptune's had the best plants BY FAR. Of course some shops were due for a new plant shipment, so it could have been timing, but I found Neptune's selection and quality high on the scale.

They also have a promotion of $5 off your purchase if you give them your cell number, so I got a cheap moss ball this time around.

I live near downtown Denver, water is consistently 6.8 pH; 4kH out of the tap.

I will have to make a point to go down there this week. I have not been there in a long time.

Neptunes is the best around here. a little pricier than your average fish store but worth it IMO.

Neptunes is so exspensive. I would only get fish and RO from them. They had a sponge filter $18 and I saw it on aquabid buy it know for $8

Thanks for the information guys. I am probably going to be completely breaking down my 120p and 120gal tank and redoing them once I am up there so I will likely be looking for a crapton of random clippings to get the tank going at some point. The TDS of my water here in phx is around 600-700 out of the tap so it shouldn't be worse then that .

And then it goes on to 10% off plants and livestock on every 6th visit. I haven't seen anything too crazy priced and their fish and plants are fairly priced as well. My only envy is Aqua Imports' selection was way better and their stock of driftwood was huge too, I got a piece right out of one of their tanks lol. Neptune's is close to home though.

At the time you sign up, you get an immediate text to your phone to confirm activation. That message says:

"U joined the Neptune Tropical Loyalty alerts. Up to 4 msg/mo Msg & Data Rates May Apply. text STOP to stop. text HELP for help T&C @"

Gawd. Look at that awful capitalization. Who wrote this? a 3rd grader?

I just moved somewhat close to DTC in Highlands Ranch around October. I pass through it every day riding the train to down town. The company I work for was going to move there, but that got canceled. Anyway, i've never actually measured the TDS or GH at my house, but its definitely hard water judging by my faucets and shower door. pH is a little below 7 in my 5.5 gallon with Aquasoil. I'm sure the plants appreciate the trace minerals though. It will be nice to have a local Mosura supplier
