Ben's 90 Gallon Low tech Aquarium

Hello everyone! I've been creeping on these forums for a while, so I figured I should show off my tank. Mind you, compared to most of the tanks on here mine is sub-par, but I enjoy it.

This 90 gallon was once home to predatory fish with plastic plants, when I went off to college I put the tank on hiatus for a few years. After graduating I built a new aquarium stand and took a more naturalistic approach. After some research, and help from the forum, I decided on a low tech tank housing mainly discus and rainbows. The tank has been setup for about 6 months now.

Equipment:

• 90 gallon aga
• 2x55 hot5 6500k/ Floramax
• Ehiem classic 2217 canister, with surface extractor loop

Livestock

• 4 assorted discus
• 5 assorted rainbows
• 1 angelfish
• 1leopard bushfish
• 2 rams

I love those fish you have in there! great mix of them, beautiful colors, and that ram looks amazing to say the least!! not to be a downer but I used to have an African Leaf Fish in a tank with my discus [before he passed], and once the leaf fish got some size to it [er like 3"], it actually got sort of aggressive towards him, and I had to separate the two, was no fun..so just FYI..and they will swallow fish that can fit in that nice size mouth of theres (but you might already know that hehe, and looks like all you fish are too big for the moment)..but keep it up those are some nice looking Discus they will look GREAT once they get big!

Thanks for the reply Sketch! The bushfish and dojo were from a friend of mine who moved away for a job, and didn't want to bring his aquarium. The pet stores around here don't take back fish, I didn't want to see them get flushed, so I took them. If he gets too aggressive he will have to find a new aquarium! Currently he's about 2 inches. I appreciate
the advice, I've never kept one before, he sure is interesting.

Well each of them has a different personality also, plus mine only had one discus in the tank so that might have had something to do with it..Mine is the single fish that actually got me into this hobby, just wait til it gets bigger, they are beautiful fish! they don't need much room either as they are an ambush predator, I keep my full grown (5") one in a 29gal high and he does quite fine, though he will be moving to a 33gal long soon as I get time to set it up..but regardless I believe you might be alright considering that you have a bunch more fish in there, unlike mine..But bravo for keeping him instead of letting him be flushed! But hey keep up the good work that is one awesome looking tank and once it fills in nicely, as it is already doing, it will be spectacular! plus I love those Rams, beautiful! I have never been able to keep them because they need hot water, but they are some of my favorite species as well!

Nice looking tank. Just want to point out that dojos are subtropical at best, and there is literally no temperature where both he and your discus will be happy. Seems like a definite candidate for his own setup.

I agree, this tank is more of a temporary solution for him. I'm either going to get another aquarium, or find someone local to take him off my hands, he was a donated fish.

I suggest getting him another aquarium, and a few friends. They are really awesome fish with a lot of personality, and they love the company of their own kind.

Well I gave the dojo to a fish store, and picked up a few new plants while I was at it! I also took out a bunch of stems that were looking messy. Tell me what you think.
