Slowing down my new ac mini...

Anyone have any ideas on how to slow down the output of my new ac mini? I have the intake tube cranked as far to the right as i can but it still seems to be flowing like a monster...

Cut some filter foam and put it over the intake tube.

what kind of filter foam? The ac's filter foam is a cube shape. Should I just cut that somehow and attach it to the intake?

You could tie a filter media bag over the intake, or add an extra sponge inside the filter. Either will slow it down a bit. Another thing I've tried is I put a sponge filter sponge on the HOB intake on my 5g and it slowed it down quite a bit.

The AQ filter sponge will work fine.

im using a AC mini for my 10 gallon. and there's barely any movement. even if dead plant debris goes an inch from the intake, it wont be sucked up. ive got 2 foams + micro swords on top.

If your AC mini isnt moving water then you should take it completely apart and clean the impeller assembly and possibly replace your sponges. It should be moving more water then that.. I have an AC mini running on my 20 gallon.

Alot of folks do this. Just buy an extra foam element for your mini (for @$1.50) and put it on top of the bottom foam element. You have to remember an AC mini is rated at 90gph..that's a fair amount of water movement for a $10.00 filter. Mini's have three media sections, so you could still put another media of your choice at the top which will further slow the flow.
