Just one of my favorite fishes... Beautiful color and shape of fins, peaceful behaviour, interesting breeding, tolerate/like high temperatures. Besides they seem to eat the surface film that builds in some tanks.

On the downside (?) they should be kept in a large tank with some depth for them to be able to hide when they want to (somewhat easy to scare) as well has have some room to escape from the dominant male. Also you should not keep them together with very nervous fishies or --of course-- fin nippers.

I have a pair in my 100 gal tank, and they share the surface / upper region with an African Butterfly Fish.

I feed them live daphnias/cyclops, frozen mosquito larvae/bloodworms, plus they like to graze algae and decaying plants.

When I purchased them they came with some ugly parasites: Anchor worms. It took several weeks, lots of medication and three tweezer operations on each of the two to finally get rid of them.

Great addition to a planted tank.

It is difficult to catch the stunning reflections that give them their name in a photo.

Absolutely beautiful, Wasserpest! I have never seen them with the red coloring on their face. Is this only on the males?

Thanks You are right, only the males show the orange color on their face and chest. What you can't see in the photo is that the males also have long filament extensions of their anal fin, with little pearls in them.
Because of them being a little shy it is not that easy to get the perfect picture... working on it

They're one of my favorites too and they were one of my first anabantids. If I ever do an Asian tank they'll be the stars of the show. 8)
