Does CRS/CBS die from being scared?
I was in a process of rescapping my 9g tank so I have to empty out the water and take my CRS/CBS out along with all the plants. I put all the plants (floaters) and shrimps in a 1 quart cup and 3 of them die.
What sucks was I saw it happening because before they die they short of flipped over but still move their legs and die offed in about an hour. It took me about 2 hours to rescape and acclimate the shrimps back in new RO water. |

You probably hurt them while netting.

I use a fluval shrimp net. The fish nets are too big and shrimp are very delicate. If you do use a fish net make sure it's the soft brine shrimp type nets.
Instead of flipping the net let the shrimp swim or crawl out on its own. |

I use the brine shrimp net but I did flip the net (damn, shouldn't have done that). 3 S grade die too, grrrr

These pants? are fancy.

Also 2 hours in 1 quart container could be drastic temperature change if there was a temperature difference in the room and tank.

Was the quart cup used for something that maybe wasn't washed well, washed in a dishwasher that didn't rinse well or something? I've rescaped lots of times and never lost anyone and I put them in margarine containers, tupperware, whatever I could find.

Maybe there was some residue. Again, if there was residue wouldn't all the shrimps die? |

Just like people there are strong and weak shrimp and some people survive things that others would not. I can't imagine that using dish soap followed by 5 minutes of rinsing would leave any sort of residue that would harm the shrimp. I use dish soap all the time to clean tanks/equipment and don't go to those lengths rinsing and I've never had any problems.
I rescaped my 20L just the other day and lost 2 yellow shrimp and a sunkist, everything else was perfectly happy the entire time. I don't know if it was the stress of being moved around or what, but it seems to happen sometimes. (And before someone suggests that I didn't rinse well either, the container they were in had never been exposed to soap or anything else shrimp-unfriendly at all.) |
