Which Diffuser
Hey all, I spent all of today running around to various pet/fish stores, and I couldn't find any CO2 diffusers or the mini elite filter that I could convert in to a diffuser for my DIY yeast CO2 system. I couldn't even find it on Petco's website anymore. So, I suppose I ought to buy one. Which out of these will work best for a 10 gallon tank? Or would you recommend another type? I wish i would have done this earlier, I have fertilizers shipping currently from the same site. Oh well. Help appreciated, thanks so much! Oh, and in the meantime, should I just put the tubing in the water, or add in a chopstick until the diffuser arrives? Would using just the tubing be pointless? I have some green hair algae in the tank and was hoping the CO2 would get rid of it.

I can't say specifically about those diffusers from GLA, but a most of those types will not work well or at all at the pressures you will achieve with DIY CO2. Before I switched to a pressurised system, I was very satisfied using the Red Sea Reactor 500. It's small, quiet, easy to use and kept my 29 gallon in the yellow on the drop checker with the DIY CO2.

Hi Kelsey G.,
I would have used both the Hagen Elite Mini and Aquaclear HOB filters (feed CO2 into intake)with the horizontal sponge placement for DIY CO2 and both worked well. I had to be careful with DIY CO2 on smaller tanks. I recommend starting with smaller bottle size and/or less yeast to keep the generation low and avoid killing your inhabitants until you know what bubble rate the tank can handle.

An advantage of the Mini Elite is that you can have it on a timer with your lights. A few months ago, I too had a hard time finding one and Emailed Hagen... they are still available, and I found one soon thereafter.
