Toxic Ten




DAY 1
Building the Substrate






















DAY 8
The day after planting










Build Spec:

10gl tank & Marineland filter "recycled" on Trash day

Substrate YDDP (Yard Dirt & Dog Poop) w 3/4" construction site sand
sieved & rinsed. Prior to adding the sand cap the YDDP was "fed' 2qts
of water from an aged tank. The top was sealed with saran wrap for 1 wk to allow the YDDP to cook.

Water 50% from existing tank, 50% Declor Tap water.

Temp. 78

Plants - Hornwort, Water Lettuce, Downoi, Java Fern, C. Walkeri-Lutea, C. Green Greco, C. Moehimannii,
Staurogyne 'Bihar', Murdannia 'Red', Taiwan Moss

HOB w/10PPI foam that had been up & running on an aged tank.

Light - 4' stoplight T-12

Maint schedule
My normal schedule all tanks

Monday 20-30% water change Tap water & Seachem Prime, Ferts

Doses
- 2 drop per gl. Aqueon Plant food

-1 drop per gl. Atlantis Fish Fertilizer

2nd dose day is Thursday

Daily Excell 1 drop per gl.

Top off typically Wed & Sat. with Tap water.



FAQs

Yes, it smelled like a Rottweiler farted expresso.

In two weeks I'll introduce Fauna

I will post pics at that time & every two weeks

Weeky water changes, no dosing for 1st two weeks, Excell daily.

It's in the unfinished basement, 4-20Ls in background for grow-out

All the house plants, temp until remodel is finished.

I don't even want to think how that smelled. I will be following along though. I want to see what happens. Are you going to be testing on a regular basis? I am curious what the Nitrates, Nitrites, and Ammonia do.

It actually wasn't that bad but, I do clean up after two dogs everyday. I would have proffered to let it cook for 3wks but, I have to clear out some tank space for new plants that are on the way.

Nope, no testing. The pics will tell the story be it Most Triumphant success or Epic Fail, stay tuned to this channel.

I hate cleaning up after 4 legged animals. Got two cats, and the smell they make is unreal.

OH, you just made day shine and I had such a horrible day that I thought I was going to get fired.

That is a LOT of dog crap for a small tank. IN reference, the amount of manure spread in fields is like 1/10th of that.

I think you're going to need to wait longer than 2 weeks to introduce fauna.
