Burnt Driftwood?

I have dozens of dead manzanita trees on my property and i really would like to put a big chunk of one of these guys in my tank. However, these trees all died years ago due to a big fire that swept across the area, and many of them have burnt sections throughout the branches. Nothing too major, just a couple quarter sized charcoaled areas here and there. I was wondering if these are going to affect my water parameters in any way?

I wouldn't think it would hurt, you need to wash it and soak it anyway.
