does anyone have a "natural pool"?

Hey everyone,

I have been doing a bit of research on "natural pools" and decided i would like to convert my current pool/hole in the ground to one of these. I am really interested in aproximate cost and care vs. a normal pool, anyone with good wintering plants for the regeneration zone, any differing ratios of swim area to regeneration zone, and any good and bad experiences with fauna and this type of setup. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks jmowbray!

I had already looked at that website and several others, which is how I came up with these questions. Anyone with a pond have a large bogg area attached? I am also curious to know how everyones water clarity is with different ratios of water volume to plants to filter size. Any experiences are welcome.

oooh, you mean a natural pool! I've wanted one for years... First off, what growing zone do you live in? Would you have a normal mechanical filter to get all the particulate matter out, or are you going 'au naturale'? Are you planning on using a UV clarifier? Do you have a plan on what to do to 'ramp up' your system if you attract some feathered fowl? (Who tend to foul the water... har har har!)

I dont know if youve seen this thread before, but if not then i highly suggest reading through it. Its the best build thread ive ever seen for a natural pool. Every time i open it i spend an hour gawking at its awesomeness lol

My question is how do you sanitize the pool like say from heavy use or from finding a dead mouse in it. I usually shock it.

www.koiphen.com and www.gardenpondforum.com are two really good places for research and ideas if you haven't already come across them.
