Amazon Sword

HI All,

Well I purchased a small Amazon Sword about 3 weeks ago and planted it at the back of my 34gallon, 18 inches deep without gravel. Well I have about 4 inches of depth at the back i imagine and the substrate is JBL Aquabasis topped with gravel.
Anyway This sword is going crazy! Its throwing out a new leaf in less than a week and its already nearly hitting the water surface. I knew these get big but i'm now concerned i'll have to chop it to keep it smaller.

will these throw out runners and spread or will i have a stunted sword with all the snipping i'm bound to have to do.

It will not send out runners like an E. tenellus or a sag or val. The plant will send up a shoot that will create plantlets.

You can snip off the shoot and stop the plant from reproducing, or you can allow the plantlets to grow roots, snip off plantlets and then replant them.

I thought my sword was giving me some some plantlets but it ended up being a flowering stem instead. Sword plants are by far the easiest and most rewarding plants the average aquarist can put in a tank. I just wish there was away to slow the growth.
