Did Excel kill my honey gourami?
Not sure if this goes in Fish or Fertz...
I am really feeling terrible. This morning I dumped a capful of Excel and a capful of Fourish into my planted 55. Moments later I noticed my little golden honey gourami swimming weakly and just sort of fluttering down onto the substrate. His gills moved for a bit longer, and then he died. I wasn't looking, but I wonder if I dumped the stuff right on top of him, and it killed him. I have used both Flourish and Excel many times before, and I have had this little guy for about 2 months without problems. Any thoughts? Julia |

i always mix my liquid fertz in a jug of tankwater for that reason - it could land undilited on a fish

I had 4 honey gouramis that would swim right through the excel and flourish everytime i dosed, and i double the dose, they were always healthy and nothing bad happened to them involving these ferts.

I dose 5ml every morning into my 10g...so I highly doubt it.

OK, thanks folks. I wonder what got him. He looked fine yesterday. Only thing different was that I fed dried tubifex worms today instead of flake food. Could he have choked?

On tubifex? Prolly not. Only had a fish choke once....and it was an oscar. They pretty much go right to the bottom and start gasping if they are actually choking and its the only time I have ever seen a fish "choke".

It could just be coincidence with your fert dosing. My dwarf gourami died after 2 months, I've been reading they have a virus that makes them prone to illness. It behaved normally when I used liquid plant food and root tabs. I also suspect he could have chewed a bad snail or piece of plant that proved too toxic.
Sorry for the loss |
