Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'' and MTS?

I just bought some HC on the weekend to try it out. For now I just buried the entire rockwool plug level with the fluorite because I don't have tweezers fine enough to plant it. It has started to spread out, so my lazy approach appears to be working.

The problem is that I keep finding MTS in the middle of it and they seem to have an appetite for this plant. I pull them off and toss em into another tank, but they've managed to consume about a third of the plant so far.

This is only the 2nd plant I've seen MTS eat. The other being duckweed.

Anybody successfuly grow HC and have MTS in their tank?

Thanks.

I have MTS in my 1 gallon tank that I keep HC in. I haven't seen them show any interest in the plant at all, other than occasionally wanting to burrow too close to it and annoy me. It is weird that they would lunch out on your HC. Maybe they just are underfed.

I am an expert on algae, so ask me if you have questions. I know how to grow it, just not how to get rid of it.

Any other successful growers of HC out there?

Thanks for the response Aphyosemion. My tank (unfortunately) has lots of algae for the MTS to eat, so I doubt they're hungry .

They've now consumed about 3/4 of the plant so it doesn't look like I'll be able to grow it anytime soon.

I'd like to hijack my own thread to ask about dwarf hairgrass too. Are new shoots supposed to be in the ground? My plants keep sending shootlets up into the air. I then have to push them into the fluorite. Is this normal?

Thanks again.

I'm trying out hc right now. My hairgrass sends runners in the substrate.
