co2 set up

hey everybody-
im wanting to set up co2 for my planted tank. what do you all think of the complete setup they sell at aquascapes for $400? is it cheaper/better to buy everything separately? if so where do i find co2 tanks?

hi, dont know about the system you are looking at, i just bought a dennerle profi 2000 which is discontinued now but it used to be $600, i got it for $95 on ebay uk (estimated £= $) This system is excellent and i have significant growth after just 2 days and the diffusor seems to be about 95% efficient, no bubbles leave the diffusor.
As for gas, the cheapest way is to buy food grade co2, get friendly with your local bar manager as it is used to drive the draught beer and soft drinks, mine was £6 / $10 for a 10kg bottle that will last a year. Failing that welding co2 from the hardware stores does the same job at half the LPS prices.
Good luck, im pretty new to this and i found adding co2 to be the most confusing part of starting my planted tank, but it really isnt as confusing as it seems.
I would just add that im glad i bought a whole system in one go then just add bits as you feel, but thats just me...

cheaper to buy stuff on your own.

the hardest part is finding a decent price on a co2 cylinder. after hours of searching the internent, trying to find places that will ship to hawaii for a decent price, i discovered micromatic.

they charge about $25 to ship a brand new 20# cylinder. their prices on equipment are pretty awesome and their regulators are used in Sumo's premium kits. buy a reg and tank from there. then either build your own postbody kit or order one from btimmer here on TPT. fill your co2 at oahu fire.

you might be able to find a co2 tank off craigslist but it's kind've hit or miss. the prices airgas and other places charge down here for a new tank are ridiculous.

Yeah you can build a better system for the money. I made that mistake already, learn from me.
