ID this Sword
I have had this plant for a month or so and couldn't find out the name of it.
It shoots red babies leaves and later they turn green.

Are these real?

I would call it Echinodorus x barthii, commonly known as Red Melon Sword.
The Red Rubin that I think I have in my tank has an awful lot of about 25" leaves, while the Melons are fairly compact. Nice plant in the pic, but seems just a little hungry. The new leaf in the center top shows a little of how it can look like when it is fed well. Give it a root tab or two

If you have it, turn to p.132 of Aquarium Plants: The Practical Guide. That Echinodorus x. "Rubin" looks a lot like your plant.

I've got one that looks 100% identicle to your picture, everything I've found points at it being a Red Melon Sword.
They get huge. Our adult is probably 20-25" in diameter and 16-20" tall. Here are a couple of pics of mine .. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=14461 |
