Terrarium ideas for a 2.5gal?

So a couple months ago I bought a 2.5gallon tank and had planned for it to be a shrimp tank. Well I ended up putting the shrimp in my 29g cause I felt bad for them. Then I got a betta and felt bad.... now it's in the 29 too.

I've put some anacharis and a few other plants in there, they just don't last long... even java fern!

So I'm thinking about switching to a garden soil and possible terrestrial plants. I know they would have to be able to live in an aquarium (no drain on the bottom) and survive with low light. I guess anything that won't drown, have short roots, and stays short? Humidity will be easy to maintain in a tank. Are there like, miniature ferns or ivy?

There's mini bolbitis, java fern, and the tubed ferns from big retail stores that almost every newb assumes it's aquatic. As for vines, creeping jenny?
